How long on treadmill to lose weight?

Lorena February 22nd, 2012

Today I went to my first day of gym. I went on the tread mill for 1 k and I was soo tired and sweating alot. Sexy, I know-but whatever, I wanted to know how many k’s I would have to do to lose weight if I went to gym almost everyday, diet aside btw–and any other really effective weight loss machines at gym?
Thanks!

Start slow and build yourself up, you must so at least 30 minutes in beginning, as that gets easier add time and change terrain Type. Also utilize all the weights and weight training machines your gym has, have someone show you so you don’t get hurt, but adding this to your cardio is a sure fire way to speed up your weight loss, also if doing weights, do not get fixated on scale weight but Look at clothing size go down, this is the loss you want.

Time spent on the treadmill is more important than distance as long as you keep a good pace that keeps your heart rate up. If you’re just starting to run, start off at 15 or 20 minutes (if you can go longer, go for it, but don’t feel bad if you can’t go as long). As your body gets used to that, the time and pace/ millage should increase.

Basically it takes 3500 calories to burn one pound of fat.

If you weigh 150 pounds you would burn 232 calories in one hour if you walk at 5 km/hr.

Everything else removed from the equation it would take you 15 hours of walking at 5 km/hr to lose 1 pound.

It would take you longer if you are lighter, and less time if you are heavier.

instead of looking at distance, you should look to run for half an hour without stopping, so if you feel you need to slow down at any point you could slow down to a walk for a little while

To lose weight you must expend more calories than you take in. You should exercises one hour per day doing cardio and alternating days of strength training.
