Slim Fast shakes good or bad plan? + Exercise questions?

I’m 17 and have been dieting for around 3 1/2 months now. At the beginning of the diet I cut out all junk food and reduced carb intake and meal proportions. I also jog/run treadmill for an half an hour hour 7 days a week. I lost around 12 pounds after cutting out junk food and such but after that weight loss sort of stopped/slowed down.

I increased my exercise now it’s 1 hour 5 days a week 30 minutes of jogging 30 of running. Dad also got slim fast and I’m trying out the 321 plan. 2 shakes a day and 1 meal.

I know it’s not like a magic weight loss shake it’s just cleverly disguised calorie reduction. It pretty much curbs the appetite, gives you sugar so you have energy, and tries to fill your bodies vitamin needs that you are lacking from not eating meals. I also know it’s not long term but it does seem to be faster as I’m already slimming down the way it says on the can.

Questions:
Would eating a 180-200 calorie meal give me the same vitamin supplements/energy a shake would if I substituted that sized meal for the shakes? I like the calorie plan and would like to keep it while eating my own foods instead of buying shakes but I don’t know if nutritional value would be up to par…

What would I need to do to my diet once I stop slim fast?

Am I running too much? I hear that when your goal is to lose a lot of weight it’s hard for your body to build muscle and it actually eats down muscle mass? I do strength training too but is that pointless until I lay off running a bit?

Or should I just get off slim fast and do it the slow way? I’m a mesomorph so it’s not totally hard to lose or gain weight but I’d rather do something like slim fast… if its bad though I’ll stop.

Is there a way I can MAXIMIZE the break down of fat and MINIMIZE the break down of muscle while I’m losing weight?

How long does it take to build muscle?

How can you tell if you gain small muscle mass opposed to thinking your diet isn’t working? (with out some fancy device or going to the doctor)

What one food should I incorporate into my diet to raise my metabolism and burn fat?

Ok so i had an amazing body when i was in high school. I was a gymnast so i was very lean.. now i’m 25-30pounds over weight. I have been over weight for 4-5 years now. I was 135 before all of this (5′5) I carry my weight fairly well but you can really tell in my legs (No tan, cellulite, and no muscle) I yo-yo with my weight a lot..idk maybe all those magic weight loss plans i did! NOT SMART! So yes iv done every weight loss diet ever (that’s not what i’m looking for) Not only that i realized every time i would lose weight it was only because i saw a very fit old friend, a vacation, or just a very tone women. I know that’s not good because i never did it for me. It honestly makes me sad to think those were my only intentions…but i’m done i’m finally motivated to do this for me. I chose a fit healthy body. I’m asking you how can i seriously lose this weight?(in a healthy not starving kinda way) I know i need to work out but what do i need to do? …i also want to say i’m looking to look defined. Not super cut up just thick muscular legs a fit belly and tone defined arms.

What do i need to do everyday for working out?

What do i eat for..
Breakfast?
lunch?
dinner?

i need help with this weight?

There are so many problems in this world and I want to fix that.I want power in order to do that.I want to make myself invisible and go into hospitals and cure people of their ailments.Whether they be physical or mental.Also there are many injustices in this world that I want to punish.By that I mean I want to turn the person or persons responsible for these injustices into creatures called goons.Goons are small about the size of a chimp,and they sit in an indian position and can’t move,they also have coal black skin,and thick blubbery lips,and I want to take them to an establishment that I created in my mind called "the fun house"Its modeled after charenton from the movie "Quillls"and take them to the dungeon in there and put them in cages that are suspended from the ceiling and keep them in there forever.I will feed them nothing but bread and water for the rest of their lives.I also want to take women that I love to "the fun house"and keep them as lovers.To help the families of my lovers cope with their loss (I’m never going to let them leave,but don’t worry I’ll treat them humanely Ill give them a nice feather bed to sleep on,I’ll give them anything they want for breakfast,lunch,and dinner,I’ll give them weights so that they can keep in shape,I’ll give them a gameboy advance and some games to entertain them,and I’ll give them a newspaper everyday so that they can keep up with the current state of affairs,and I’ll give them a mindwipe so that they will forget that they ever had a family)Anyway to help their families cope with their loss I”ll use my powers to reveal the secret lottery numbers go to a store put in those numbers get the ticket and I’ll make myself invisible and go into my lovers house and put it on the table with a note that says These are the winning lottery numbers to help you cope with your loss"I’ll do that once a year for each lover"i won’t do that for any of the goons though,because they were bad people when they were human.Let me clear up who I will and will not turn into goons.I would never turn a bully into a goon unless he did something that just went too far like if he brought a dangerous weapon on school grounds or he framed the victim for a crime that he did not commit and got him expelled from school.I do this because I believe that bullying is a right of passage,but there are times when the bully just goes too far.Also I would never turn a prostitue into a goon unless she either killed one of her jons who couldn’t pay,or she had a dangerous STD but continued her craft anyway endangering the public.I would only turn bad people into goons.Can anyone teach me magic powers? Because I have so many wonderful plans for this world.If you can teach me magic powers but they require months of hard work and dedication,then lets wait until I can make enough money to move out of my parents home.

i would really like to achieve a weight loss of 60-70lb in 17 weeks is this possible any way? i no there are no magic pills but does anyone no of any meal plans n excersize ragemes i can follow? i no its alot so please no rude answeres but its just my goal…ive already lost 11 lb but thats been over 6 weeks so its abit slow thanks for everybodys help! :)

i’m 22 years old, 5′2" and 185lbs. About a year ago i did the herbal magic program here in canada and i was able to get down to 150lbs from just over 200lbs. I’ve since gained more then half of that back and i’m so disappointed in myself. Sometimes i think of just not eating at all. I hate people who can eat whatever they want and not gain a pound. I secretly wish they would all get hit by a bus. i’m completely miserable and i hate myself. please help me. i cry every day about my failed weight loss efforts. i hate that i can’t have chips or pop etc…only once in a while…no matter what i eat i’ll gain weight. I’ve been known to gain like 5-6lbs per week. i mean that’s ridiculous!

i need help with a diet plan. i’m thinking of just having a banana for breakfast, A "healthy choice" (no preservatives) frozen dinner for lunch and then a salad for supper. it’s the bare minimum and i know i’ll be starving but is this enough food to keep me from getting sick and lose weight fast? i know it’s a stupid idea…i do. i’ll also be drinking like 2L of water/day. i already do that. just help me please.

What should my meals be like? i try to eat 6small meals instead of 3 normal size..but idk..totally if im doin it good..and its hard..sometimes..=/!

Does this sound like a good diet plan?

I’m currently re-starting an exercise and diet regimen after about 2 months off. I know that both are important for long term weight loss, but I find that when I exercise every day my body holds on to the fat much more than if I just restrict my calories.

I am thinking that this is because I restricted my calories too much to begin with. I am actually not in horrible shape, I do a decent amount of exercising, walking, etc, and I have a lot of muscle, especially in my legs, so I’m not totally horrible on fitness (but I could definitely do better). So now, I am planning on eating 2000 calories per day ( I weight about 270 currently) and exercising 60 (cardio) minutes 3x per week. I know that once I go down I will have to revise that, but I will do that as I need to. Does this sound like a good plan?

P.S. If you are going to post some answer about some magic pill you took, then don’t bother. I’m doing this the right way, and I don’t need to know about some ‘amazing pill’ that you saw on Oprah.

I did lose 100 pounds in 2 years. About 5 years ago, I was married to an abusive husband. Any abuse you can imagine, I suffered, including being force fed. It made me go from 117 lbs to 200 lbs. I lost weight quickly after divorce. I was a student at a large university, so I walked at least a total of at least 30 minutes a day fast paced. I also changed to a vegetarian diet. Now, most importantly, my blood pressure is excellent, and my cholesterol is very low. I will advise this is ALL I did. I also led quite an unhealthy lifestyle because of the mental conditions I suffered after divorce, and that included binge drinking almost every day. I have resolved my alcoholism and I am being treated for my mental disorders now by a psychiatrist. But I did lose a ton of weight. It will ALWAYS include lifestyle changes like I did, including changing your diet and excessive. I did lose a good amount of my bones, because I would lose weight quickly in short amounts of time. The point of my story is please, do not take diet pills! They are dangerous and have been linked to heart disease. There are also a lot of free trial scams involving weight loss pills that are ineffective, like acai berry pills. There is no magic pill. You must exercise a normal amount and change your diet. It can be done. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can do it. Please keep your goals reasonable. You may not want to lose as much weight as I did, so my lifestyle choice may not be for everyone, and ALWAYS consult your healthcare professional before starting any weight loss program. Many times, your doctor will give you a weight loss plan suitable for you!

Good point. Your HDL should be higher than your LDL, so check these levels with your doctor!
Lady A<3, That was a GREAT move to get a plan from your doctor! As far as my specific diet, I just ate what I wanted, but left out the animal products. For example, a lot of times I ate special K with soy milk for breakfast. A good lunch option is something that has lots of green veggies, like asparagus. I ate a lot of rice too. I also made a LOT of tacos with black beans, rice, salsa and either real milk cheese, or soy cheese. That’ll be up to you, but I think the food I ate was fantastic! I also ate a lot of spinach lasagna!
BTW my favorite food of all times is still TOFURKY! YUM! You can also eat dark chocolate bars, like 1 a day. I would split it in two and eat it at different times. But just eat a lot of veggies. Even if it’s just veggie from a can and wild rice. Thats really the main things I ate every day that I’ve listed! and Lady A<3 thanks for your words of encouragement, you can do it too, I KNOW you can if I did! I lost 25 pounds the first month!
Oh, and please don’t forget to cut out those yucky full calorie pops! It’s best to switch to water, but if you gotta have pop, get diet!

Oh my, Why is this section filled with young people asking ridiculous questions about weight loss and then include…" i dont want a lecture". well, maybe you need one. so… most of your children are perfectly fine. stop trying to gain and lose overnight. you have so much time to fix anything…if there is a real problem with weight or lack of muscles. Nothing happens over night. only good healthy decisions over the course of a lifetime will save you. No weight loss plans (notice is didnt misuse the term diet), no health guru, no magic pills, no starvation plan, no blah blah blah. Just good ol’ fashion. You get out what you put in! maybe the people on Y!A "lecture" you cause you’re misguided. If you dont like what we have to say why dont you just skip the question and do what you want and stop wasting both of our time. thoughts? :D ashley this rant was not aimed at you sweetie. and I would say more than half, or a majority, of questions in this section are similar to want i was saying. and i care because i care. I have personally dealt with hundreds of people trying to better themselves without any thought of health. many trying to recoup what they lost because of some crazy diet plan. how many women do you think Ive talked to that have completely shut down their adrenal system thanks to ephedra. well, only two at complete failure but when i see people on the board asking about illegal products… i guess i get all pissy, sorry if i came off harse! cheerS!

Has anyone found a good, non prescription, weight loss pill?

I’m not looking for magic so, please no lectures. I am not on any specific diet plan but by eating less and doing more I have lost 20 lbs in the last 3 mths or so.
I know that is pretty good and I am happy but, I’ve also sort of platoed and was wondering if anyone had any advice how to get things going again?
Also I can’t afford crazy expensive pills so anything more than 25 or 30 bucks a bottle would probably be out of my price range.
(I am 29 and weigh about 170 at 5 foot six so please don’t worry that I’m some anorexic 13 yr old!)

I’ve decided to start an extreme weight loss program…how does my plan sound?

I’m 6′3", around 235 (I’ll know for sure tomorrow at the gym). I’m not stuck on numbers, but I’m guessing I’ll need to lose at least 75 lbs before I’m satisfied. My main goals are to lose my broad shoulders and chest. I know that some guys with they were bigger, but that means nothing to me. I really don’t care what other people find attractive, and I’m not interested in any of the women who want some big strong man to protect them.

As my pic will demonstrate, I have a very long way to go. As far as diet is concerned, my plan is to stick to low-carb, low-fat, and not to eat until one hour after my stomach starts to rumble. I find a lot of times I eat just as an excuse – because I’m bored or because it’s a certain time of day or because I feel like it – and I’m interested to see how much I would eat per day if I only ate when I was really, truly hungry.

I don’t have some strict timeline to lose this much weight…I’m presuming it will take me till summer to lose it all. As for exercise, I’m going to stick to only cardio. I’m asking for new running shoes for Christmas since the cheap ones I bought give me blisters if I run too much, so until then, it will be 20 min on the treadmill, 20 on the Stairmaster, and 20 on the elliptical, seven days a week.

This site is rife with you people and trust me, whatever solution I end up going with is not going to include investing in some dumb miracle cure. I have worked in the corporate offices of an Herbalife-style fad diet company, so I’m well aware of how they prey on insecure and desperate people. Thanks.

Mitch – Thanks…however, I don’t want to look muscular…that’s why I chose to lose so much weight.
Just in case anyone says this….I tried personal trainers. i’m in no position to hire one anyway (and I don’t need one), but they just told me I was crazy to want to lose so much weight and to "take advantage" of my size….in other words, they misunderstood me. I know I’m not obese (moderately overweight at best), but I want to appear smaller. My problem is not my stomach, but my upper body…broad shoulders and chest.
Okay, maybe "extreme weight loss" was a bad term to use. I’m not saying "I need to lose seven pounds a week" or "I need to lose 40 lbs by New Year’s" or anything like that. I meant "extreme" as in "losing a lot of weight", not "losing a lot of weight in an unrealistic time span."
PLEASE read my full question. I don’t think I’m hugely obese. As nice as it is for people to say, I don’t care if others think it’s great for a guy to have broad shoulders and a big chest….I hate it and that’s why I want to lose an inordinate amount of weight.
I’m aware of the effect of multiple meals on metabolism, and if I were simply trying to get in shape, that’s what I would be doing. However, my goal is to get as thin as I can, not to build muscle or simply get in shape.

Can someone help me get on an effective weight loss work out plan?

hello I’m a not so active woman I”m 5′ 7 170lbs I want to start making work outs a part of my life. I just don’t know how to mix it up and challenge myself to set myself up for weight loss and getting healthy. I have a elliptical machine, a leg magic and treadmill with incline capability and I’m planning on working out for 45 mins 4 to 5 times a week. So the question is how many calories should i have daily? and what work outs for max weight loss… how much can i expect to lose in first month? Thanks so much any help would be appreciated….
my goal is to lose 35-40lbs……..
I was hoping to lose 15 by thanksgiving
please help….
