Which is better for weight loss: treadmill or the elliptical? ?

Lorena April 9th, 2010

I realized that I burn way more calories in the elliptical (about 2x more!), BUT I feel I get more of a work out (meaning that I feel I have to work harder) on the treadmill. So which would be better for weight loss, the one that burns more calories or The one which my work out is harder but I burn less calories.

BTW: When I’m on the tread mill I go for about 30 min on speed 3.5 with short sprints here and there

I am trying to exercise for weight loss?

Lorena April 8th, 2010

I have been exercising 3 X a week for 30 – 60 minutes on a treadmill & burning 300 – 400 calories. I have been walking with weights too on the tread mill quite heavy ones but I am not noticing any change in 4 weeks. In fact when I weighed in it looked like I might be an oz heavier. I weighed myself on an electronic scale last time would this have made a difference?

I am thinking to just diet instead as the exercise is not only killing me but I am not seeing any results.
n.b. I am holding hand wieghts while I walk.

Do you need to sweat to lose weight or have a good workout?

Lorena April 5th, 2010

I’ve been going to the gym for about 3 weeks, when I use the tread mill, it has a ideal heart rate of 118-126 for weight loss. If I stay in this range, I don’t necessarily break a serious sweat. I actually need to crank up to about 130+ to get a sweat going.

Also, I’m just speed walking in the weight loss range…..

FYI- I burn -300-600 calories depending on what weight routine I’m doing for the day.

Lost 15 pounds so far….

Are there any FREE weight loss sites?

Lorena April 4th, 2010

I want to lose 40-50 lb. within the next 5 months and KEEP it off. But, I want to do it without starving myself or puking in the toilet, because if I want to keep it off for life, starving myself ISNOT an option!

Is there a free, helpful weight loss site where I can track my calories, progress, get healthy meal plans and excersises, and get tips and support? All help is appreciated. (: Thanks!
